Caribbean Airlines Introduces Meal Pre-Order Service for Economy-Class Passengers

On January 27, Caribbean Airlines launched a new meal pre-ordering service for select flights from February 1 as part of its 2022 “Reset Expectations” campaign, which is focused on enhancing the customer experience.
On flights over an hour long, a range of meals and snacks can be ordered from the time of booking up until 36 hours before a flight’s scheduled departure time via the airline’s website, mobile app, Reservation Sales and Service center and travel agents.
There is no additional cost for passengers traveling on Economy Flex fares, but those traveling on Economy Lite and Economy Classic tickets must purchase their desired products. Menu items range from $5 to $13 in price. Customers that do not pre-order meals from the menu will still receive a pre-packaged snack option onboard.
The menu has been designed to offer passengers an authentic taste of the Caribbean and includes famous street food from Trinidad and Tobago such as Doubles, which consists of curried chickpeas in bara flatbreads. Other options are two types of bake (bread) and fish – Coconut Roast Bake ‘n’ Saltfish and Maracas Bake ‘n’ Fish – and a dish of Stewed Chicken, Callaloo, Macaroni Pie and Plantain.
There are a selection of sandwiches and wraps available, too. The carrier has included a “Fusion Cuisine” section on the new menu that consists of a barbecue chicken wrap, pimento chicken salad sandwich, tuna salsa sandwich, savoury turkey sandwich and a sweet ‘n’ sour chicken stir fry with noodles and vegetables.
Caribbean Airlines is also catering to health-conscious travelers with three “Light ‘n’ Healthy” options: A backyard garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette; a kaiso chicken Caesar salad with caesar dressing; and a marketplace fruit medley with yoghurt.
Finally, a special kid’s menu features options including chicken tenders with potato wedges, mac and cheese, spaghetti and meatballs, a vegan pepperoni pizza or a snack bag.
Hot meals are currently only available onboard the carrier’s Boeing 737-8 and 737-800NG aircraft.
Caribbean Airlines took delivery of its first Boeing 737-8 earlier this month. The jet’s three-class configuration consists of 16 business-class seats, 36 Caribbean Plus seats and 108 economy-class seats. The cabin also features more spacious overhead bins, LED mood lighting, in-seat power and access to the airline’s Caribbean View in-flight entertainment system, whether it’s via 13.3-inch seatback screens in business class or passengers’ personal electronic devices.
