Hannah MacDonald

MonteVibiano Scholarship

I will be attending Cornell University in the Fall for Hotel Administration as a Freshman. Cornell’s world renowned hospitality program allows students to get fully immersed into their major from the moment we walk on campus. While most schools delay studies in your major, Cornell lets students take classes in their major right away. I will be taking classes such as Introductions to Hotel Operations, Introductions to Hotel Service management, Financial Accounting and more. I went to an Arts High school, where each student was in one conservatory for their art. I was in Culinary Arts and Hospitality, and at first I wanted to be in the back of the house. However, as I went through their program I realized what I really wanted to do was work in the front of house. I participated in ProStart management to test those ambitions and ended up really enjoying the process of creating a restaurant. We won our State Cup in California and went on to Nationals. It was an amazing experience. Cornell is my dream school but it comes at a hefty price. But I believe it’s worth it because I know I’ll be receiving a Gold Standard education in hospitality management. Any scholarship awarded will support my dream education. Some will help pay for my books, but other funds will help me payoff the loans I’m taking to attend an Ivy League school. It will allow me to worry less about taking on multiple jobs during my crucial freshman year, where it more important to focus on my classes. Currently I work at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club as an administrative assistant, banquet captain and as a Hostess for their restaurant. During my time interning there for the last year, I have learned customer service skills, event management, HR laws and regulations, and leadership skills. After I graduate college, I would like to work for Disneyland hotels and resorts. My goal is to first work in one of their hotels as an event coordinator, front office manager or something of that rank. Long term, I would like to work “up the food chain” and eventually be a general manager or VP of some kind.
