IFSA Winter Regional Event
IFSA will kick off 2020 with its Regional Event at the Wreck Room in San Francisco on Monday, 20 January. The event is held in conjunction with the Winter Fancy Food Show. Plan to join industry colleagues at this informal event to build relationships and learn more about how IFSA can benefit you and your business.

FTE-APEX Asia Event Recap
IFSA recently attended the FTE-APEX Asia EXPO in Singapore, an event which drew a crowd of more than 1,000 delegates from across Asia and beyond. The purpose of FTE-APEX Asia was to contemplate the future of aviation and how to assist airlines and airports in improving end-to-end customer experience. IFSA members were well represented at the Onboard Hospitality Forum Asia, which featured inflight catering, wellbeing, design and innovation specialists. Additionally, the event featured a range of education sessions, including one that addressed sustainability, corporate social responsibility and environmental priorities. On this panel, IFSA Executive Director Lauren Costello was joined by Monty’s Bakehouse CEO Matt Crane and SATS Head of Global Supply Chain Dino Pertsinidis, along with Onboard Hospitality Editor Julie Baxter as moderator.
 Government Affairs & Education Committee Update
IFSA's Government Affairs and Education Committee (GAEC) monitors global regulatory and legislative issues impacting the industry. These are the latest updates:
 
  • IFSA Attends FDA Meeting on Food Safety & Develops Comments:IFSA participated in the 21 October Public Meeting hosted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on a modern approach the agency calls, “A New Era of Smarter Food Safety” that seeks to strengthen the FDA’s protection of the U.S. food supply by creating a more digital, traceable, system. Following the meeting, IFSA drafted comments to submit to the meeting docket which outline key considerations for which the FDA should account to ensure the airline and airline catering industry can adapt to new technologies or processes that the FDA wishes to integrate as part of their oversight of U.S. food safety.
 
  • IFSA Attends Stakeholder Meeting in Brussels on Single-Use Plastics Issue:IFSA continues to address the Single-Use Plastics (SUP) Directive in the European Union (EU), which will ban products for which alternatives exist on the market, such as single-use plastic cutlery, plates, and items made of oxo-degradable plastics, by the year 2021. On 18 October, IFSA staff attended a stakeholder workshop hosted by the European Commission (EC) in Brussels, Belgium, which focused on the definitions that fall under the SUP Directive. IFSA also coordinated with and continues to be engaged with the Airline Catering Association (ACA) in the EU regarding such matters. The EC is now working on developing formal guidelines, which may be used by EU Member States as a ‘reference point’ when implementing the SUP Directive, and for which IFSA is continuing to be consulted as a relevant stakeholder.
