IFSA CEO Joe Leader, the IFSA Board of Directors, members and staff attended the 2019 World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE) in Hamburg, Germany in March. While onsite, the IFSA team connected with industry leaders through networking, business discussions and thought leadership opportunities.
Leader kicked off WTCE by moderating a panel of the industry's leading airline executives’ who shared insights on the current trends of sustainability, innovation, digital transformations and growth within the industry. Leader also represented IFSA and was featured as a subject matter expert on LSG’s panel session on sustainability.
In addition to participating in WTCE's thought leadership program, IFSA’s EU Task Force met to discuss key issues including the EU Single Use Plastics Ban and food contact materials. For more information, see the GAEC update below.

IFSA Government Affairs and Education Committee (GAEC) monitors global regulatory and legislative issues impacting the industry. Check out the latest updates below:
·EU Single-Use Plastics Ban Update: On 27 March 2019, the European Parliament adopted the Single-Use Plastics Directive in order to reduce marine litter. To this purpose, the Directive bans several single-use plastics items, set recycling targets, impose compulsory labelling and marking on packaging and extend producers’ responsibility. The European Commission will have to provide guidance on aspects that are still unclear, such as what food and drink containers will have to be considered as single-use plastics.
·Food Contact Materials: IFSA will contribute to the Food Contact Materials Public Consultation, which is part of the current legislation re-evaluation undertaken by the European Commission, in order to share IFSA views on that matter.
IFSA will continue to monitor these issues, provide updates and guidance to its members.
