As we reflect on the successful 2016 IFSA Conference & Expo - held in the Windy City of Chicago - we are reminded of what this association is really all about – education, regulatory compliance, networking, food trends, and new opportunities in onboard hospitality.
This year had an exciting speaker line-up, IFSA was proud to welcome keynote speaker, Tom O'Toole - Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of United Airlines on the future of technology in our industry and the education session presenter, Jennifer Blackmon - Corporate Director and Culture Transformation of the Ritz-Carlton Leadership Center on customer experience. Both speakers presented thought-provoking information for everyone who attended.
The 2016 IFSA Conference & Expo shaped up to be a record-breaking year for the tradeshow floor with over 190 booths sold and record attendance of close to 900 attendees! There were new initiatives such as the “New Product Showcase” highlighting innovations in the industry and the live “Ask the Expert” Q&A session hosted by the Government Affairs and Education Committee (GAEC); both were well-received by our members. Another crowd favorite was the highly anticipated Chefs Competition which this year featured the honorable celebrity chef, Sam Choy, as a guest judge. As always the competition was fierce between Ahlam Abdullah (LSG Sky Chefs), Gaurav Gaur (Emirates), John Doggett (Flying Food) and ultimately, the winner - PJ Lemoncelli (Preferred Meals).
IFSA is also very proud of the accomplishments of the GAEC as they released the 4th edition of the World Food Safety Guidelines (WFSG), a comprehensive guide to assist the onboard industry in meeting and exceeding food safety standards. The IFSA website offers the WFSG for download atbit.ly/IFSAWFSGin English and this year we added Spanish. We encourage all of you to share this free download information with your colleagues.
One of my goals as IFSA President continues to be to create solutions and opportunities for our airline, catering, and supplier members. Our members are like a family and IFSA is here to develop this growth and partnership. Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication.
