GAEC Consultants' Profiles
Share |

The Board has invested in several resources to assist the industry with regulatory issues. This includes three consultants providing input to our Government Affairs and Education Committee (GAEC) regarding a wide range of global regulatory and legislative issues impacting member companies. Look for updates regarding issues such as allergen labeling and the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act to assist your company with compliance.

Dean Davidson, Consultant: With over 30 years of training and experience in food safety law with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Mr. Davidson brings his expertise on compliance issues, interstate travel and food safety to our association. As a consultant for GAEC, he participates in calls, assists member companies with questions through our “Ask the Expert” web page (insert link), and provides food safety and compliance training.

Susanne Meyer, Kellen Europe: Ms. Meyer specializes in food regulatory issues ranging from food labeling legislation to coordinating industry positions. She has a wealth of experience in food safety policy and European Union (EU) trade policy. As a consultant to GAEC’s newly established EU Task Force, she will provide visibility in Brussels by introducing IFSA to key EU officials, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and other stakeholder contacts according to the legislative priority issues identified by IFSA members in the region.

Jessica O’Connell, Covington & Burling LLP: Legal counsel Ms. O’Connell joined Covington and Burling LLP after 6 years as the Associate Chief Counsel in U.S. FDA’s Office of Chief Counsel.  She provides strategic advice to a broad range of companies and trade associations in engaging with food and drug regulatory bodies. As a consultant to GAEC, she will engage the FDA and other agencies such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture about safety and labeling issues that affect our industry. In addition, Ms. O’Connell will provide IFSA-specific analysis of relevant FDA publications and requirements, identify legislative and regulatory issues that merit IFSA’s attention and provide guidance specifically about allergen labeling requirements and any forthcoming additional labeling requirements that would apply to this industry.

Updates from these consultants and their work with our GAEC Committee will be provided on our Food Safety Webpage, our Ask The Expert Webpage,  in our Onboard Monthly Newsletter and in our members-only LinkedIn Group (insert link). If you have any questions please email Emily
